Preparing a Will
Having a Will is essential so that you can ensure that once you pass away, your loved ones are able to distribute your assets in accordance with your wishes. A properly drafted Will also provides peace of mind that your family and loved ones will be taken care of.
We strongly recommend that you speak to one of our Wills and Estate Lawyers in order to start your estate planning. Prior to travelling, it is essential that you have a Will prepared.
Our Wills and Estate Lawyers will help ensure that your Will expresses your specific wishes. We will ensure that your Will states how you would like your assets to be distributed.
Things to consider
There are numerous circumstances which will impact your wishes.
- Who do you want to be the executor of your Will?
- Do you have any children? If so, do you wish to appoint a guardian?
- Are you married or in a relationship?
- Do you have excessive debt?
- Are there family members which you do not have a relationship with and do not want to gift them any part of your estate?
- Have you helped a child more than your other children and wish to give them less than their other siblings?
- Have you made any promises to anyone that they will receive part of your estate if they agree to do XYZ?
- Do you have specific items (e.g. jewellery – emerald ring, etc) which you wish to gift?
We aim to assist you in drafting a Will which clearly outlines your wishes to try and minimise the Will being contested.
